I’m spinning down a black hole of fast fashion away from my personal style and everything I love. But don’t worry this a positive post on the matter! There’s only one way back that neither budgeting or researching can help. That is to remember what I like and remove what I don’t. So, here are five pieces that I’ve bought over the years I don’t regret buying and will never be sick of them.
I spent what seemed like a million years looking for a great leather jacket that fit perfectly, was cost effective and was in a style I liked and it was well worth the wait. It was a moderately inexpensive jacket (at most fifty dollars with free shipping) from SheInside and since I’ve bought another from the same place in a differing style. It literally goes with everything perfectly, and makes any outfit look automatically most badass – especially since I’ve added my new Cure back patch!
This was a splurge piece that I bought using money saved from birthdays and dish-washing in highschool, not too long ago. I couldn’t justify buying another pair of shoes for a long time. But that was perfectly fine with me because I knew they would last! I wore them everyday to school, even in summer, and still wear them tonnes. They go with almost everything and automatically make everything look more Punk Rock.
Thigh High Socks
These were a recent acquisition, but I’ve worn them almost every time I get dressed and there will be no problems wearing them in the winter if they last that long. Funnily enough, they were ridiculously cheap but my past history of buying very expensive socks has left me with a horrible taste in my mouth because they just sucked. I’m sorry, but when paying twenty dollars for some socks you can at least make them easy to wear and comfortable because not even my thigh size could fit into them!
My Brown Satchel Purse
I found this in a thrift stores years ago and have used it most days of the week since. In the thrift store at the time I remember specifically debated weather to get the brown satchel or a smaller leopard print bag. I’m glad I bought the satchel. It’s funny that I’ve been trying to replace this bag for years since I got it but nothing had really crossed my eye that I’ve completely fallen for, with the price being right of course. Brown goes with absolutely nothing I own but satchels are classic and it’s the perfect size imaginable so I’m quite happy to have it in my life.
Writing this post really gave me insight into the things that I know that I like and will use everyday. They’re utilitarian things that I need for daily life, they basics that often have a certain punky aspect to them and they all bring life to any outfit of which they’re are paired. Not to mention they’re generally higher quality and not ‘fast fashion’ (minus the socks). I’m definately looking out for things that scream utilitarian, basics, Punk and quality from now on. If you were to make a list of the most worthwhile pieces in your closet what would they be? And how do they fit together? It really does give a great look into the personal style that is trying to free itself from inside you. What is your personal style trying to tell you?
