Goth Basics That I Don’t Actually Own!

You hear stories of people who focus on the staple items in their wardrobes. Well, I’m not one of them, but somehow I have the oddest mix of rather plain clothing that contains no basics! Don’t make my mistakes. I’ve always had it in my mind that I would just stumble upon basic clothing that is perfect but that doesn’t happen when you’re focusing on stripes and polka dots!

If you’re unsure what Goth basics you’re missing check out my in-depth post on the topic here. (I worked really hard on it!)

A Fitted Black Skirt

This is the basis of most Gothy outfits! Yet I’ve never found the perfect one. Thrift stores love the black pencil skirt but that looks ridiculous on my shape and height. I just want a thick semi-body con, straight skirt!

Waist Coat

Not everyone’s kind of basic, but this has been something I’ve been looking for a long time! I want something formal in nature (no halternecks) but falls in a more casual way, loosely. Something that would be perfect for studding and adding pins.

 A Simple Pair of Heels

You may think that these aren’t a ‘Goth Basic’ but I’m committed to them being a basic for any wardrobe. When I say heels each person should find a height, thickness and style that they both like and feel comfortable. Many people when they hear the world heels they think stiletto but that isn’t the end-all-be-all of heels, guys!

If you’re still unsure about simple heels being ‘totes’ Goth, I’ve made you a little inspiration collage of well dressed Goth characters in heels at the top. Elvira’s stilettos, Nancy’s heeled granny boots and Vampira’s everything.

What are you missing? I could add that I’m missing a basic pair of winklepickers but I’ve found an awesome pair that I can’t wait to snatch up! Have you found something recently that you’ve been looking for forever?

I actually bought a pair of platform boots tho other day! Not much of a basic but I'll make them one;)
Also totally agree with you on the heels. Especially when there's some random formal occasion having a pair of heels to throw under a blazer and a skirt is just really really handy.

I have a very fitted body con skirt and way too many coats. (One for every season and in different fabrics.) I have one pair of heeled winklepickers but I have only worn them once. That is the only heeled shoe I own. I prefer combat boots over any type of shoe. I need to purchase shorts for summer and I really need a statement skirt. I have been lusting after a leather one lately.

I have a lot of fundamental pieces; skirts, coats, blouses. But my trouble seems to lie in accessories like shoes and bags. Winklepickers and platform buckle boots are among those staples that seem to elude my wardrobe.
I also really love the idea of getting some piercings, and dying my hair fun colors… but the opportunity to do so also eludes me.

Oh man, I'm suddenly inspired to do a "Goth Basics that I Own but NEVER Use" post. All of my old Victorian Goth stuff would definitely make that list.
