For a long time, I had been searching for an amazing leather jacket to gift my partner. Over Christmas, I found the perfect one. It was a recycled leather (which brings a little of my ethics to the gift) and it’s also 100% badass. If you haven’t check out Deadwood before you are missing out.
Rebellion today is standing up to fast fashion, ruthless mass production and distorted ideals.
Deadwood was founded by Carl Ollson and Felix von Bahder, two Swedes who were working together at their own vintage store. They create their line from recycled vintage leather jackets. This brand takes what they call “post-consumer” materials vintage leather jackets and workroom leftovers to create sustainable pieces in their own modern style.
These jackets are perfect if you want that old-school vibe but with a modern fit and sustainable attitude. I know that’s what drew me in!
…if your conscience is green you are probably already aware that leather production is a heavy strain on the environment. In fact, the making of a new leather jacket in today’s standard mass production causes roughly 200 kilos (440 pounds) of CO2 emissions. The natural alternative for many would be to try to find a vintage jacket, but as you know it’s difficult to find one that doesn’t have boxy fit or panzer hard leather.
Their aesthetic is all about rebellion, punk, grunge and that old school (but still modernly styled) punk attitude that gave the leather jacket it’s awe-inspiring legend status that it has today!
These jackets are certainly an investment at $300 upwards. But they do have the occasional amazing deal. The jacket I bought Coen is still on sale down from $350 AUD to $100.
Well, you’ve officially heard my spiel. But what do you think? What do you think of Deadwood’s style? I know that my next leather jacket is going to come from these guys. I can’t wait to give it a proper review!
